In 1969, the St. Clair Ambulance Service as we know it today had its very beginning. out of the need for emergency healthcare, the Greater St. Clair Association was formed. Two ambulances were donated to the association along with some basic equipment to get the program going.

October of 1973, plans were made and petitions circulated to form the St. Ambulance District. The issue was placed before the voter and was passed in December of 1973. In March of 1974 a board of Directors was elected, with one board member elected from each of the six sub districts that make up the St. Clair Ambulance District.

The St. Clair Ambulance District serves a 286 square mile area, which is divided into six different sub-districts of relatively equal population.

The Primary purpose of the St. Clair Ambulance District is to provide effective and efficient emergency care and emergency transportation for the sick and injured of the District, and further provide non emergency care and transportation of those who require such services.
